Online Micro-Credential Courses for Teachers of Mathematics
The 20 teachers in ATMALA worked collaboratively with project faculty over a three-year period to design, build, pilot test, and refine online, asyncrhonous courses - we call them micro-credential course (MCCs) - to help other teachers of mathematics learn to implement strategies reflective of culturally responsive mathematics teaching (CRMT). Each of the MCCs is designed to take 5-6 weeks and includes time to learn about the strategy, try out the strategy, and receive feedback about one's efforts. The aim of each MCM is to demonstrate proficiency by submitting evidence from your classroom (e.g., video, student work, lesson plans) along with self-assessment using course-specific rubrics. The courses are facilitated by classroom teachers and will lead to one-credit of continuing education units (CEUs) from CSU Fullerton as well as, for those demonstrating proficiency, a digital badge. The table below shows the elements of CRMT addressed by each MCC and the videos give a quick overview of each MCC.
